Campus Corner: Rowing tryouts

Here's a release I got from the Queen's rowing team about their upcoming tryouts this weekend. I was planning to try and put this in the Journal, but we ran out of space, so I thought I'd put it up here in case any interested Queen's students are reading this blog. Rowing is one of the better programs here: the women won the national championship last year, while the men finished second, so I highly recommend trying it for anyone looking to get into sports. Here's the release, written by their media rep, Catherine Moores:

If you're interested in trying your hand at one of our nation’s premier sports, come out to Queen’s Rowing and try out for the Queen’s Varsity Development Team. A year on the Varsity Development Team will be fun and great exercise and will introduce you to the rowing world. Each year, select Development Team members advance to the Varsity team and from there, many athletes go on to compete for the National Team. In Beijing this summer, the Canadian rowers won 4 medals, and the majority of those athletes had previously competed on their university teams.

Whether you have Olympic ambitions or not, if you’re interested in what the Queen’s rowing team has to offer, sign up at www.queensrowing.ca/rowthisfall.

If you’re not quite ready to commit but would like more information, visit our booth. Team members will be at the sidewalk sale all day Friday.
