Not dead yet...
Well, this blog has been dead for far too long, but I'm going to try to give it some CPR. If you haven't noticed already, I've been spending most of my time writing about the CFL over at 55-Yard Line; unfortunately, that's combined with a bunch of my other writing projects to keep me away from here for a while. No longer, though! I can't commit to a regular schedule yet, but I'm hoping to post some sports musings here at least several times each week. If you want to know when something new's going up, follow me on Twitter or Facebook; the Twitter feed's got plenty of my sports thoughts that aren't long enough to make real posts, while the Facebook one's basically just my posts. You can also subscribe to the RSS feed of Sporting Madness posts here. Anyway, thank you for your patience, and my sincere apologies for the prolonged absence; I'll do my best to keep posting things here more consistently down the road.

Back to the grind
Apologies for the lack of posting here lately; I've been swamped at the day job and then spent last weekend snowboarding in Vernon, so I haven't had a lot of time to blog. I did get a new piece up at Canuck Puck on how the team's loss to Detroit Saturday night isn't as bad as it looks, so you can check that out if you haven't already. Also, a note to Vancouver (and area) readers; I'm planning to attend the official Canucks Tweetup tomorrow night, so if you're there, say hi! Anyway, we should be back to your regularly scheduled madness shortly; I've got a bunch of CIS thoughts on the way, as well as several professional sports posts set for this week. Until then, enjoy some Skid Row:

Just resting...
One problem with the holiday season is it leads to a lack of blogging time, especially when busy writing for other publications. I did manage to get some thoughts on the Roy Halladay trade and what it means for the Blue Jays up over at The Rookies However, I've finally cleared some of the backlog of work, so I should be able to get a few things up here pretty soon. One of the things I've been working on is a three-part series on concussions, which I'm planning to run today, tomorrow and Thursday. The first installment will go up shortly. Until then, here are some of the other pieces I've previously written on the subject:
- "The heads up on head injuries" (Queen's Journal, Sept. 28, 2007)
- "NHL's stance on concussions is troubling" (Queen's Journal, Dec. 28, 2007)
- "The school of hard knocks" (Queen's Journal, Jan. 29, 2009)
- "Take concussions seriously" (The Phoenix Pub, Aug. 11, 2009)
- "Football, brains and dogfighting" (The Phoenix Pub, Oct. 12, 2009)

A slave to the grind
My apologies for my lack of posts here recently. The downside of spending a week in Calgary covering the Grey Cup was it meant I had a lot of regular work to deal with upon my return (making the above song appropriate), which hasn't given me a lot of time for blogging recently. I do have a lot of things I'm working on, though, so hopefully I'll be able to get a few of them up in the coming days. Until then, you can check out some of the Canucks' posts I've managed to get up over at Canuck Puck. Hope to have more for you here soon!

Apologies and a weekend schedule
Apologies for the lack of posts this week. I've been filling in as the sports reporter over at the Langley Times this past week, and that, combined with some computer issues, hasn't left me any time to write. That should be remedied soon, though; there are a lot of posts I'm planning to get to later today and over the weekend. I'll also be live-blogging the Guelph-McMaster University Rush game (1 p.m. Eastern/10 a.m. Pacific) and the B.C. Lions - Saskatchewan Roughriders game (5 p.m. Eastern/2 p.m. Pacific) tomorrow afternoon, so tune in for those. For now, I leave you with an excellent Warren Zevon song that could have been the theme of my Vegas trip last weekend:

Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to all those of you who celebrate it, and a happy holiday of your choice to everyone else! First, I want to say thanks to all of those who take the time to read my musings and pontifications; it's greatly appreciated. Apologies for the lack of writing around here lately; I figured the holidays would give me more time, but they actually haven't to a large extent. In any case, my Christmas present to those of you who still bother to check this site comes in the form of a return to writing. I've been working on a couple of long posts for the last week and a bit and should have them ready to go within the next couple of days. Anyways, thanks again for reading and have a great holiday season!

Apologies for the absence
I've been away from this blog for a horribly long time, thanks to the crazy last couple of weeks, so sincere apologies to all of you who bother to read my blabberings. In addition to my usual writing and editing duties for the Journal, Out of Left Field and The CIS Blog [note: that one, a review of the CIS soccer championships, might actually be worth taking a look at], I've had to deal with four massive history papers and presentations in the last week (on such various topics as the actions of General Motors under the Nazi regime, the Byzantine Empire's relationship with Russia and the significance of the printing press to the German Reformation), so my brain has been pretty fried. Anyway, things should hopefully get back to a slightly more normal posting pace around here, and I'll do my best to keep up with it. Thanks for putting up with the absence!
